Artist statement

Dublin, Ireland

Maeve Cullen is an Irish visual artist (b. 1994, Dublin). She lives and works in Dublin, where she maintains her studio. She completed a BA in Fine Art (Painting) at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) in 2016 and an MFA in Painting at the same institution in 2019.

Her practice is concerned with coastal light, memory, and the quiet labour of looking — harbours, salt marshes, and kitchen windows that face west. Paintings are built slowly in oil; works on paper keep the studio honest between larger canvases.

In 2025 she was selected for Tide Lines at the Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin. In recent years she has participated in group exhibitions including New Irish Painting at the Royal Hibernian Academy (2024) and Coastal Registers at the Model Arts Centre, Sligo (2022). She received an Arts Council of Ireland Agility Award in 2024 and completed a residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Annaghmakerrig, in 2022.
